When jazz singer Anita O’Day died in 2006, the music world lost her unique sound. A biographical documentary, Anita O’Day: The Life of a Jazz Singer , is now out on DVD. Inakustik and MVD Visual are pleased to announce the release of “The Paris Concert” Series on Blu-ray disc for worldwide distribution on July 14, 2009. As one of the largest independents in Germany, Inakustik is at the forefront of filming music content for DVD and now Blu-ray Hurricane Sam and the Hotshots will perform from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 3 as part of the city of Sausalito’s concert series, Jazz & Blues by the Bay. Josh Rzepka doesn’t discriminate when it comes to classical and jazz. The Akron-born trumpeter plays both, and he’s in the midst of recording compact discs in each genre. This column preceding Independence Day kicks off with two more MVD CDs in their great series of essential jazz albums, then touches base with a local band’s debut album before wrapping up with a DVD chronicling the 6,000th concert from All-American guitar hero Ted Nugent. RIPON Reverend Raven and the Chain Smokin Altar Boys will perform Chicago-style blues Friday in downtown Ripons summer concert series.
