Casper Civic Chorale will present their winter concert, “An American Tapestry” on Tuesday, March 9 at First United Methodist Church at 7:30 p.m. At this time of the year, Americans celebrate several important events. Just one month to recognize the achievements of women in jazz isn’t enough. But it’s a good start. And with the American Jazz Museum’s March calendar filled with almost nothing but women-in-jazz events, the time is now. “Fair Weather Friend,” featured on the band’s rootsy new album Feed My Soul , revolves around a grim sequence of events: “The doctor he said cancer, I stopped in my tracks / I did not have the answer, but I knew you’d have my back.” Only the supposed friend deserted Holmes in his time of need. Once a year, VC associate professor of music Jonathan Anderson volunteers his time and expertise at a jazz clinic held by the Association of Texas Small School Bands. This year, his third time to volunteer, he conducted a clinic in Region 14 in Corpus Christi. LAKEPORT – John Parkinson, director and conductor of the Lake County Symphony, plans to deliver a Christmas concert that will rival anything seen and heard north of the Golden Gate, according to Paul Brewer, president of Clear Lake Performing Arts (CLPA), the orchestra’s sponsoring group. Nellie McKay has made a name for herself as a jazzy-pop singer-songwriter who combines smart lyrics with unusual musical juxtapositions, creating a fresh, genre-defying sound.
