When you say Latin jazz, chances are your words are interpreted pretty narrowlyscreaming salsafied horns, fast dance beats, crooning Spanish vocals. But thats as silly as assuming all Latin American countries are identical. In the 1930s and ’40s, band singers were mostly blond, sophisticated and attractive. At age 63, singer Bettye LaVette is a lean, limber gal who sings with her whole body and her entire soul. The Marsh Jazz/Blues/World Music Fest has become a summer “must see” event in Southeast New Brunswick, drawing people from all over the Maritimes to their exceptionally high quality and reasonably priced concerts in Sackville New Brunswick. Stevie Wonder tinkered with the words of one of his biggest hits on Tuesday to honor Michael Jackson at Montreal’s international jazz festival.
